"We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. So we're building here a clearinghouse that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world's most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other."
- TED

TED is one of my favourite websites. They provide free lectures and talks about a whole range of different topics by experts in their field.
Watching these videos can bring about new ideas into your life and make you more aware of the world around you.

In this thread, I will be providing the videos I find the most interesting and enjoyable to watch.
If anyone else loves TED talks, please feel free to post your own links and videos.

Paul Bloom: The Origins of Pleasure

Why do we like an original painting better than a forgery? Psychologist Paul Bloom argues that human beings are essentialists -- that our beliefs about the history of an object change how we experience it, not simply as an illusion, but as a deep feature of what pleasure (and pain) is.

All dreams are within reach...all you need is direction and focus - Perplex

Paper is dead without words, ink idle without a poem. All the world dead without stories, without love and disarming beauty.

I'd climb to the edge of a mountain for you. I'll go to the ends of the world to find you. We'll dance in the shadows until we reach a breakthrough. All we need is a breakthrough.

These conferences are interesting. Some time ago, one of our cable channels used to play them but I never got to watch them.

This one was quite interesting. It's not something I'm studying or have ever had much interest in but it's nice to know something about it. Knowledge is never enough. Are you going to post these videos regularly?

Yeah, I am. There are some TED talks that would bore people to death, so I am going to sort though and find the awesome ones Smile

Double Century
It's About time there was a TED thread, Here are my favourites that shouldn't bore the general population.

Speaker: Sir Ken Robinson
"Do Schools Kill Creativity?"

Sir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining and profoundly moving case for creating an education system that nurtures (rather than undermines) creativity.

Speaker: Benjamin Zander
"Music and Passion"

Benjamin Zander has two infectious passions: classical music, and helping us all realize our untapped love for it -- and by extension, our untapped love for all new possibilities, new experiences, new connections.

Speaker: Julia Sweeney
"The Talk"

Despite her best efforts, comedian Julia Sweeney is forced to tell a little white lie when her 8-year-old begins learning about frog reproduction -- and starts to ask some very smart questions.

Speaker: Adam Savage
"Obsessions"

At EG'08, Adam Savage talks about his fascination with the dodo bird, and how it led him on a strange and surprising double quest. It's an entertaining adventure through the mind of a creative obsessive.

Poetry by Mark Lloyd at TEDxYouth event

The Power of Introverts
In a culture where being social and outgoing are prized above all else, it can be difficult, even shameful, to be an introvert. But, as Susan Cain argues in this passionate talk, introverts bring extraordinary talents and abilities to the world, and they should be encouraged and celebrated. Susan Cain makes a case for the quiet and contemplative.

The Introversion video was rather amazing, I hope things like that become more understood.

Brene Brown's vulnerability and shame talks are inspiring too!

She doesn't necessarily say the truth that will suck you in but she brings up personal points that you can relate to within yourself.
